Sugar Land Women's Triathlon is Back--

Race Reaches 300 Cap...Ann Smith Takes Title
6/23/2008--TriPsyclone's Mandy Luna, 2008 SMW Regional Sprint Champion, was in hot pursuit of longtime area champ Ann Smith on the bike and run Sunday. As fate would have it, she had to settle for second overall Sunday (and first in her age group), in the return of the Sugarmandy Land Womens Tri, run by Andy Stewart and Finish Line Sports. Memorial Hermann was the title sponsor of the event.

Close to 25 TriPsyclone women participated in the event, including a few first timers, along with the many TriPsyclone volunteers assisting one of the best local races make its comeback. Jen Browne and Michelle Nelson also took age group honors.

Watch for a video from the race later in the week. Results can be found at WOMENS TRI RESULTS .

New Tejas Layout & Course--
Shorter, Faster Tejas Course for 850+ Athletes...
6/8/2008--Race Director Greg Pennington had to make last minute changes to the bike course to adapt to unexpected city road construction. But the shorter, faster(?) course and a new transition area layout were a hit and easily accomodated the large number of participants.

The TriPsyclones were well represented pushing 20 racers including a few newcomers. Look for race stories on the Discussion Forum and results can be found TEJAS RESULTS. Watch for a video of the race coming toward the end of the week.

SLOTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE JUNE 22 SUGAR LAND WOMANS TRI at the Aquatic Center, put on by Andy at Finish Line Sports. Call them at 281 242-7700 for more info or sign up online at WOMENS TRI SIGNUP.

Heat Challenges TriPsy's at Ironman Arizona
TEMPE (4/13)--Three TriPsy's felt the wrath of the desert heat and wind yesterday but managed solid finish times at IM AZ.

Russell Jeffcoat, in im azhis 5th Ironman outing, churned out a blazing swim and bike (despite a flat) but the 95 degree heat ground his run to more tempered pace.

Chad Fikes and Michelle Reddick, neck and neck for most of the day, fought the fierce headwinds on large sections of the bike. Chad was able to brush off the oppressive heat and churn out a 5:18 marathon. Michelle ran about the same pace as Jeffcoat. Finish times included Russell: 13:55, Chad: 14:27, and Michelle: 15:41. Check out more details of the day at IROMANLIVE.COM or IRONMAN ARIZONA .

THE EARLY SEASON CHALLENGE--
To Ride or Not to Ride...Early Ridin'

Lets face it...the weather is just plain unpredictable this time of year. With the early season Lonestar Tri now on the yearly calendar and the perennial MS150 preparation, the push to get on the road early is unnerving...

For those of you still sleeping in, know that the hearty TriPsyclones have been out braving the cold and fog and slippery roads. Lisa and Eric, our New Rider Coordinators, are busy getting ride support for our newer members.

So come on out, train for a tri or a ride...before you know it, it will be swimming weather.

Welcome to the 2008 Fort Bend TriPsyclone Triathlon Season...logo

Triathlon fever is real...

For the last 4 years, the TriPsyclone Triathlon Club has endeavored to provide the "means of communication" and other support services to Fort Bend area triathletes. We are fully supported by local businesses (ie., Please visit the Sponsor Page at every opportunity.) and everyone involved in running the club is a volunteer...but despite that, we have been involved in a whirlwind of activity of late. Last year we experienced a huge expansion but thankfully we appear to have survived the growing pains. Whewwwww...

We are organized loosely, and generally communicate andofficers interact through our DISCUSSION FORUM and this website. The DF contains an events calendar (seminars & social events too!), allows folks to coordinate running, biking and swimming with other club members, and hosts discussions of all manner of topics besides training. Register yourself on the discussion forum (separate from club membership) so you can participate regardless of whether you do a single triathlon.

Rather than wax nostalgically about past seasons, I wanted to turn my eyes to the future and let our 2008 membership (and potential membership) know what initiatives we will focus our volunteer energies on...

  • Better Bike Support for those new to road riding. Our weekly default route starts at Belin Park in Pecan Grove and extends outward to Fulshear. Bike coordinators will make sure that no new riders get lost or abandoned with a flat tire/mechanical failure during certain scheduled times.
  • Better Swim Support for those who want to learn how to swim or want to improve their swimming. The Swim Coordinator will help steer you into a local program or teacher that can help you meet your goals.
  • Continued Club Support of area triathlons by providing race volunteers whenever possible.
  • Continued Support for USAT Regional Club Competition.
  • Continued (moral and training) Support for those interested in pursuing Ironman racing especially those taking the plunge for the first time.
  • Continued support for local charities through our hugely successful club event, the SUGAR TRI KIDZ TRIATHLON in Sugar Creek, a race for those 12 and under...

This is just the 2000 foot view of the season...a flood of details will come your way starting with the 2008 Season Opener Meeting next Wednesday, Feb. 6, 7pm, at Berry Hill's back room.

WELCOME...

Sandy Lord, Club Administrator

(The website is always a work in progress...I will keep adding information as time allows to keep current and relevant information at your fingertips...)
